Message a band, and answer as one

Fans write to a band from its page. The people who run the page answer as the band, from one shared inbox.

Claimed bands can take messages. A fan's message goes to the band's own inbox on MerchVice, and whoever runs the page answers there, as the band.

How to do it

  1. As a fan, open the band's page and tap Message, beside Follow.
  2. Write under Your message and tap Send. Your first message waits in the band's requests until someone from the band answers. The thread stays in your Messages.
  3. Running the band? Open Manage, then Messages. A fan's first message waits under Requests. Threads you've answered or accepted are under Inbox.
  4. Open a thread and write your answer as the band. Answering moves a request to the inbox.
  5. On a request, tap Accept to move it to the inbox without answering yet, or Ignore to put it away. The fan is never told.
  6. Need a break? Tap Turn messages off at the top of Messages. Turn messages on brings them back.

Good to know

  • Fans see the band's name on every answer. Only the band's managers see which of them wrote it.
  • Until the band answers, a fan can send up to three messages.
  • While messages are off, fans read that the band isn't taking messages. Threads already open stay, and the band can still answer them.
  • When fans write, each manager gets one notice a day at most. It never names the fan.
  • Block and Report are in each thread's menu, on both sides. The band's blocked fans are listed at the foot of Messages, with Unblock. A fan unblocks a band under Settings, Blocked members. Nobody is told.
