Keeping deals on MerchVice
Why we ask you to keep buying, selling and trading here, and what happens when a deal moves elsewhere.
When a deal stays on MerchVice, both people are protected and we can help if something goes wrong. Most people who ask to move a deal mean no harm, so we start with a friendly note, never a penalty.
How to do it
- Before a message goes, we may show a note: "Heads up: deals made off MerchVice aren't protected." It appears when a message shares a phone number, an email address or another app, or asks to be paid another way.
- Tap Edit to change your message, or Send anyway to send it as written.
- The other person sees a safety tip under a message like that, so you both know what to look out for.
- Got a note about a deal that left MerchVice? Find it under Settings, Decisions from MerchVice, where you can tell us your side once. A person reads every reply.
Good to know
- Zelle, Cash App, Venmo, PayPal friends and family, wires, gift cards and crypto can't be taken back if an item never comes. Asking for them is how most scams start, so we always show a note about them, to both people.
- Once selling opens to you, payment apps can't be asked for on an item for sale or trade, or in a chat about one. Edit the words to send or save it.
- Once selling opens to you, sharing contact details or arranging a deal elsewhere in a chat about an item for sale or trade counts as a strike. The first is a warning. The second pauses starting new conversations for 7 days, though you can still reply. The third asks a person to look at your account, and nothing changes until they decide.
- Each strike goes away after 90 days, and you get at most one a day. Nothing removes or suspends an account without a person deciding.
- Chatting about bands, shows and merch never counts, and neither do links to photos or a band's own site.
- Something feel off? Report the message from its More menu.
