MerchVice vs Reddit

Reddit is where you talk about the shirt. MerchVice is where the shirt is: on its band's page, in your closet, with every other fan's copy beside it.

Checked October 2026. Every fact about Reddit here comes from its own help, fees and terms pages, each with its source and the day we read it.

The short answer

  1. Reddit is more than 100,000 communities, and the merch and vintage ones are some of the best places to talk, ask and show.

  2. MerchVice is built for the merch itself: a page for every item under its band, a closet that records what you own, trades that move the item to its new owner, and a feed that is newest first with nothing promoted in it.

  3. Use both. Keep the conversation there; post the items you own here, where every fan of the band can find them next year too.

Where Reddit is better

  • More than 100,000 communities, so there's likely already a subreddit for your band or your scene. Source

  • AMAs: a band can sit down and answer fans' questions in one thread. Source

  • Search inside a single community, or inside one post's comments. Source

  • Upvotes let the crowd decide what rises. Source

Use both

Nobody is asking you to leave Reddit. Bring your items here as well, so they have a home that is about the music.

On a computer, go to reddit.com/settings/data-request and fill in the form; when it's ready, Reddit sends a link to download your account's data to your Reddit inbox. Or just open your old posts. Post the items you still own here from your own photos, and tag the band. Source

Bring your items in from a file

Keep your closet here

MerchVice is where people show off the band merch they own and trade it with other fans. Your closet, your bands, your people.

Questions

Is MerchVice a forum?

Not really. It's a closet and a database first: every item on its band's page, with comments and posts around it. The talk is about the merch in front of you.

How are trades safer here than in a swap thread?

A trade is proposed item for item, both sides agree, and the item moves to its new owner's closet with a record. Ratings sit on the trade itself, and a person checks reports.

Can I bring my Reddit posts over?

Post the items you still own from your own photos and tag the band. We never copy anything from Reddit ourselves.

Is the feed ranked?

No. Newest first, for everyone who follows you. Nothing is promoted into it.
