MerchVice vs Facebook groups

A group post is gone in a week. Here the shirt stays: on its band's page, in your closet, with the trade recorded and the story kept.

Checked October 2026. Every fact about Facebook groups here comes from its own help, fees and terms pages, each with its source and the day we read it.

The short answer

  1. Facebook groups are where many scenes buy, sell and trade today, in posts and comments, among people they half know.

  2. MerchVice is built for the merch: every item has a page under its band, your closet records what you own, a trade moves the item to its new owner with a record, and the feed is newest first with no ads in it.

  3. Use both. Stay in your groups; export your photos and post the items you still own here, where they won't scroll away.

Where Facebook groups is better

  • A group for literally any interest, so a band or a scene has its own room in minutes. Source

  • Marketplace finds items near you, sorted by distance, for a local meet-up. Source

  • Inside a group you can go live, run a poll or host a Q&A, not only post photos. Source

  • Shops give a band a storefront people can browse on Facebook and Instagram. Source

Use both

Nobody is asking you to leave Facebook groups. Bring your items here as well, so they have a home that is about the music.

Click your profile picture, then Settings & privacy, Settings, Meta Account, Your information and permissions, Export your information, and Create export; the HTML format includes your images and videos. Post the items you still own here from those photos, and tag the band. Your groups stay where they are. Source

Questions

Do I have to leave my groups?

No. Stay in them. MerchVice is where the items live between posts: each one on its band's page, in your closet, with its story.

How is a trade different here?

You propose it item for item, both sides agree, and when it closes the item moves to its new owner's closet with a record. Nothing is lost in a comment thread.

Can I bring my group posts over?

Export your information from Settings and post the items you still own from those photos. We never copy anything from Facebook ourselves.

Are there ads in the MerchVice feed?

No. The feed is newest first, nothing is ranked, and anything promoted sits beside it and says so.
