MerchVice vs eBay

eBay is where a shirt goes to be sold. MerchVice is where it lives: in your closet, on its band's page, with its story, whether or not it's ever for sale.

Checked October 2026. Every fact about eBay here comes from its own help, fees and terms pages, each with its source and the day we read it.

The short answer

  1. eBay is the biggest place to sell a shirt to a stranger, with auctions, offers and buyer protection built in.

  2. MerchVice is built for the merch itself: a closet for what you keep as well as what you sell, pages for every band and design, trading between fans, and a feed that is newest first with nothing paid to rank.

  3. Use both. Sell there when you want the widest market; keep every item here, where fans of the band can find it.

A closet for what you keep, and a Top 8
MerchViceYes

Post what you own to show it off, not only to sell, and pick a Top 8 for your profile.

eBayNo

My eBay holds your watchlist and saved sellers. Nothing keeps what you own and aren't selling, and there's no Top 8. Source

No ads in the feed
MerchViceYes

Nothing in the feed. Anything promoted sits beside it and says so.

eBayNo

Promoted Listings sit in search results. The seller pays an ad fee when the item sells. Source

Buying new from the band
MerchViceYes

Bands claim their page free and put their official merch and store links on top.

eBayPartly

A band or merch company can run an eBay Store for a monthly subscription. Nothing ties it to the band's page or to fans' copies. Source

Following bands
MerchViceYes

Follow bands, members and tags, and hear when they add new merch.

eBayPartly

Save a seller to find them again. Alerts come from saved searches by keyword, not by seller or band. Source

Where eBay is better

  • The biggest market: buyers in more than 190 markets around the world. Source

  • 250 listings a month with no insertion fee, more with a Store. Source

  • Auctions and Best Offer let the price find itself. Source

  • Seller Hub Reports upload and download your listings as CSV or XLS. Source

Use both

Nobody is asking you to leave eBay. Bring your items here as well, so they have a home that is about the music.

In Seller Hub, open the Reports tab, pick Download, press Download report, choose Listings as the source and download it (reports cover the last 90 days; ask eBay for older data). Upload the file in Imports here, as it came, and add your own photo to each item, or post from your photos straight away. Source

Keep your closet here

MerchVice is where people show off the band merch they own and trade it with other fans. Your closet, your bands, your people.

Questions

Can I keep selling on eBay and still have a closet here?

Yes. Your closet records what you own, whether or not it's for sale anywhere. Mark an item Showing off, Open to trade or For sale, and change it whenever you like.

Can I bring my eBay listings over?

Yes, from the file eBay gives you in Seller Hub Reports. Upload it in Imports and each listing waits as a draft, which only you see, until you add a photo and post it. We never read eBay's pages ourselves.

Does MerchVice charge to list?

Showing off and trading are free. Selling has one flat fee, shown before you list, and no fee on shipping.

Who sees my item here?

Everyone who follows you or the band, newest first. Nothing is ranked and nothing is paid to rank.
